Accessibility

In the last two decades, Israeli society has undergone a change with regard to people with disabilities. Most of the change is reflected in the recognition of the right of people with disabilities to lead full and independent lives like all other members of society.
In 2015, the Municipality’s vision and strategic policy were defined, upon which the Municipal service concept was formulated, based on five leading principles: innovation, excellence, accessibility, transparency and sensitivity.
The Jerusalem Municipality attaches great importance to making accessible the public space and buildings for which it is responsible, the places in which service is provided to the public and the services provided to the public.
The Jerusalem Municipality’s Accessibility Department was established in order to integrate the issue of accessibility in the city, to implement accessibility laws and regulations, to act to raise awareness and provide tools to the Municipality’s departments for implementing the law, as well as for increasing municipal activity in this area. The unit is in contact with organizations and individuals representing people with disabilities.
An accessibility department has been established in the Education Administration, and deals with individual and institutional accessibility to educational buildings for which the Municipality is responsible.
