Artist Details: Israeli American Artist Yosef Apodaca, professionally nicknamed FrancoAmericano, has worked as a self-taught artist for the past 35 years.
He has exhibited throughout the USA, France, Spain and most recently in Israel at the Jerusalem Biennale 2019 with the Los Angeles "Jewish Artists Initiative".
He discovers the exposure of emotion and the human form in his art, creating portraits and landscapes that embody both real and non-fictional iconic subjects on canvas. Yosef’s painting language is rendered by distinctive outlines, organic shapes, and intensely blended oil brushwork. The artist's life in Barcelona and Paris influenced his expressionist color-saturated hues and matte palettes. His figures are exaggerated forms posed within a spiritual and dreamy realm; Inspirations are explored from the teachings of Rebbe Nachman of Breslov. The artist currently lives and works in the neighborhood of Nachlaot in Jerusalem.
