Education Emergencies Guide

The security system of educational institutions is based on the directives of the Education Ministry, the Israel Police, and Jerusalem Municipality procedures.

Real Alarms

When an alarm is sounded and has an up-and-down, rising and falling tone, take the following actions in this order:

  • Prepare the children for evacuation
  • Take the daily attendance sheet with you
  • Evacuate the children to a security room or shelter within a minute and a half

Terror Event

When an explosion is heard take the following actions in this order:

  • Have everyone lie down on the ground beneath window height and away from windows
  • In the event of small arms fire, lock the door(s) from the inside
  • Children shall only be evacuated following the teacher’s instructions.

Earthquake or Building Collapse

In the event of an earthquake take the following actions in this order:

  • Immediately evacuate to an open area outside the building. This is to be done through the nearest door and in the shortest possible time.
  • Take the daily attendance sheet with you
  • Stay away from buildings, trees and electricity poles

Fires

In the event of fire / hearing the fire alarm, take the following actions in this order:

  • Open the doors and windows of the rooms
  • Prepare the children for evacuation
  • Take the daily attendance sheet with you
  • Evacuate the children in a counter-clockwise direction

Suspicious Object

When you hear an agreed upon signal or instruction, take the following actions in this order:

  • Prepare the children for evacuation
  • Wait for instructions
  • When given the order to evacuate take the daily attendance sheet with you
  • Evacuate the children to the area instructed by the teacher
  • The meeting area shall not be within line of sight of the suspicious object
