Elections to the various community administrations, enable you – the residents – to choose the people who will represent you, protect your interests and promote quality of living in the neighborhood. It is a municipal model unique to Jerusalem (actually the only one in the world), where the residents are directly involved in designing their environment. It provides a unique opportunity to lead to actual change in the neighborhood and create a good place to live, for you and your children.
The election system in each administration is slightly different (as set forth in the election regulations). Candidates are neighborhood residents over 21 who meet the criteria set forth in the election regulations.
The second round will be held in eight different community administrations: Talpiot East, Beit HaKerem, Yuvalim, Har Noff, Neveh Yacov, Zur Baher, Beit Hanina and Romema.
What are Community Administrations?
Community administrations are the Jerusalem way to conduct the neighborhood’s community and social life. There are 31 community administrations throughout Jerusalem, serving as a complementary municipal tool for managing the city and enhancing ties between the municipality and the residents.
The community administration has three main responsibilities:
- To provide residents with local neighborhood services relating to leisure activities, culture, urban planning and more, in accordance with the municipal policy.
- To liaise between the municipality and neighborhood residents toward developing cooperation that is beneficial to the residents.
- To develop the community life in the neighborhood, serve as a platform for community organizations and initiatives and nurture leading and influential local leadership.
The important array of community administrations is led by the management, working closely with the professional team. Management consists of neighborhood residents chosen through democratic elections and the professional team is made up of the administration director and employees responsible for executing the municipal and administrative policy. Together, they work to lead and promote the community administration and the quality of life for the neighborhood residents.
Community Administration Management and its Role
Community administration management is the body that leads the administration and defines the vision for the neighborhood.
Management consists of 15 members, including:
9 neighborhood residents chosen by democratic elections
6 authority representatives – The municipality, Israel Association of Community Centers, Jewish Agency for Israel (in relevant neighborhoods), quarter manager, quarter planner, Welfare Bureau, Educational Administration and Cultural Director.
Together, the administration management is responsible for formulating the community vision and setting the policy, involving the residents and representing their needs while helping the professional team implement the policy.
