Consultation with Specialist Doctor at Tipat Halav
Unique Service for Parents of Premature Babies – Consultation with Specialist Doctor at Tipat Halav Good news for the parents of premature babies in the capital. Starting in September,
Prof. Michael Schimmel will be receiving parents referred by Tipat Halav nurses and doctors from around the city three times a week at one of the three stations – Givat Shaul, Gilo and Ramat Eshkol
The Jerusalem Municipality is also working for the benefit of the city’s babies and newborns. Parents of babies born prematurely who require medical guidance and assistance in order to reduce gaps in the newborn’s developmental stages and growth will now be able to consult at designated Tipat Halav stations for monitoring and treatment set up by the Jerusalem Municipality. Prof. Michael Schimmel will be receiving and providing instructions and recommending treatment methods at the Tipat Halav stations. Prof. Schimmel until recently served as the director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Shaare Zedek Medical Center.
Due to a shortage of doctors working in the field in both hospitals and the community, families are finding it difficult to receive the necessary treatments.
The Jerusalem Municipality has been working to make the treatments available at designated Tipat Halav stations. Prof. Schimmel will closely monitor the medical and developmental status of newborns who were kept in neonatal intensive care units, infants born following severe fetal distress and infants born with severe birth defects.
Prof. Schimmel, who is personally connected to this area, picked up the glove and took it upon himself to provide treatment and assistance to the parents of newborns and premature babies. Prof. Schimmel updated the premature wards of the city’s three hospitals so that they would be aware and inform parents about this new service at the designated Jerusalem Municipality Tipat Halav stations he heads.
Alongside Prof. Schimmel, an occupational therapy clinic and a dietician will also be working, each of which will be providing information and advice in their areas of expertise.
Mayor Moshe Lion: “We’re here for you from the very beginning. My goal is to provide you with quality services at every stage, to minimize hardships, to come up with solutions and to make it as easy for you as possible. The same goes for Tipat Halav. May our children grow and flourish and do great things.”
