"Black & White Festival" tribute to 1973
Three-day event with concerts to mark a half-century since the historic year in the world of music

The Black and White Festival, which will be held March 23-25 at the Jerusalem Theatre, will spotlight the year 1973 in the world of music.
1973 is engraved in our collective memory as a year of dramatic historical events and the Yom Kippur War that changed everything. And yet, in the very same year, novel cultural and musical phenomena blew our minds, set our hearts on fire, and battered our consciousness. Amid all the upheavals, 1973 was particularly fruitful in terms of cultural wonders around the world and in Israel, from Pink Floyd's legendary album "The Dark Side of the Moon" and Elton John's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", to Israeli band Kaveret's "Sippurei Pugi" and collaboration album "Behind the Sounds" by singers Matti Caspi and Shlomo Gronich. The music released in 1973 redefined the boundaries of music as well as expressed the spirit of the period.
To mark fifty years since that cultural and musical explosion, the Black and White Festival, whose theme this year is "1973 - When the Muses Thunder" will offer a series of events and performances echoing the cultural and creative wealth of that wild and exciting year, and pay tribute to some of its iconic works and moments. The schedule includes:
- Israeli singer Ilanit, who represented the country in the 1973 Eurovision song contest, in a joint performance with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, which will be conducted by Ronnie Weiss
- Singer Yermi Kaplan in a stunning glam tribute to Elton John
- Singers Rona Kenan and Alon Eder in a nostalgic homage to Matti Caspi and Shlomo Gronich's masterpiece album "Behind the Sounds"
- Singer Uzi Navon in a special concert with twenty musicians
The festival will take us back to the vibes and sound of the seventies that we all can enjoy, even if we grew up in a different decade.
