Daniel Auster served as mayor between the years 1948-1951.
He was an Israeli politician. After the establishment of the state, he served as the first Mayor of Jerusalem. He was among the signers of the Declaration of Independence.
Born in Galicia. A lawyer by profession. Immigrated to Eretz Israel in 1914. In the years 1934-1945, served as Chairman of the Rehavia Neighborhood Committee and as deputy mayor. Was a member of the People's Council (as a representative of the "General Zionists" party) and therefore signed the Declaration of Independence. When the state was established, he became the first Mayor of Jerusalem (1948-1951). Related to American author Paul Auster.
