Municipal Basketball Leagues

The Municipal sports Divisions holds a wide variety of regular activities during the entire year.​

​This plan is designed to provide solutions to all city residents in all ages.
Services provided to residents:
1. School Leagues

The Sports division, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, holds boy/girl school championships for children in elementary schools, junior highs and high school.

Additional tournaments are also held throughout the year. In total, about 300 games are held as part of the leagues and tournaments.

2. Synagogue Leagues
As of 2010, the Sports Division has been operating the basketball league for Jerusalem synagogues. The league currently has 20 teams including men and women of various communities.

3. Girls’ basketball

Basketball club league

School teams from elementary schools who are part of the same area (Jerusalem Modi’in, Mateh Yehudah) take part in this league.

The players on the teams must be school students, the league is not intended for teams representing community centers/sport clubs or any other organization which is not a school.

There are no limits on the teams schools can form, 5-10 girls in each team. Tournaments are held as part of this project.

The center of excellence for girls’ basketball

Operates at the Cosell Center in the University at Givat Ram in Jerusalem

It hosts girls located by physical education teachers and/or the top players in the club league. The center’s activities are held in collaboration with Athena – a public Association for the promotion of women in sports (a government body whose goal is to promote women sports in Israel, working in collaboration with the Israel Basketball Association).

Girls’ basketball training camp

Is held during summer vacation for 6 days, is intended for girls between 3rd and 10th grade who are interested in physical activity, love playing basketball or are interested in advancing in this field. The camp is intended for girls from all levels of play, even those who have never played before, and is not intended only for the very best players.

4. Neighborhood leagues

A basketball league for the residents of Jerusalem neighborhoods is supposed to begin in November / December 2015, and to last about three months

The league will be called The Mayor’s Cup, and the teams reaching the first places will win prizes.
