Jerusalem contains 27 municipal libraries, including 21 neighborhood and city center libraries, 3 Arabic libraries in East Jerusalem, a Russian library, an art library, a music library and a mobile library which travels to neighborhoods where permanent libraries have not yet been built.

The libraries contain a variety of books and magazines, bestsellers and classical literature, literature for children, youth and adults of every genre in Hebrew, English, French, Russian and Arabic in libraries in East Jerusalem.

There are also collections of current reference books for high school and university students, and the general public. The libraries stay up to date with modern technologies with computer stations which provide internet access to the public, and offer an exclusive service to residents of the city - connection to databases, such as the Szold Institute's database, database of journals of the University of Haifa, the experiential learning repository "Galim", the Ynet Encyclopedia, and more.

In Jerusalem, there are around 48,000 library members who receive lending services for free, while the number of users who visit the library reaches 250,000 visits a year.

In addition, the libraries offer various cultural activities related to books and intended to encourage reading: Story time for children with the best storytellers, meetings with authors for youth and adults, shows and workshops, meetings with Israeli cultural icons, concerts and the Opera on a plasma screen - activities of the music library and more.
