The marathon took place marking 50 years of the unification of the city. The full marathon winner (second consecutive year) is Shadrack Kipkogey, age 26, from Kenya, who finished the race in a time of 2:17:36. On (Friday) the seventh International Jerusalem Marathon Winner took place. More than 30,000 runners from about 60 countries around the world ran through a breathtaking route , by the Knesset, through the walls of the Old City, Sultan's Pool, Mishkenot, Shaaninm, Mount Zion, the German Colony, Rehavia, Talpiot promenade, Ammunition Hill, Sacher Mount Scopus, the Mount of Olives and other sites. More than 3,700 runners came from 60 different countries around the world, and the hotels in town were full to overflowing. About 10,000 hotel rooms were booked. Proceeds from the marathon will total $ 20 million ₪ to hotels and businesses.
Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat, who ran the 10 km run stressed that "the fact that the record of applicants from abroad broke during the year which celebrates the 50th anniversary of Unification of Jerusalem, is a testament to the power and prestige of the Jerusalem International Marathon Winner Jerusalem. It was a pleasure sharing the track with runners from around the world. This year thousands of Jerusalemites joined the marathon and many Jerusalem families enjoyed a family experience.
