The program, estimated to cost about half a billion shekels, will lead to an increase in the number of Zaharonim - afternoon supervision at schools in the city - from 700 the previous school year to 2,500 this coming school year.
The Zaharonim will accept children from the age of three to second graders (inclusive). It will be possible to open a Zaharon at any school, provided that at least 25 children are registered. The Zaharonim will also operate in kindergartens, in ultra-Orthodox schools and in schools in the eastern part of the city.
The cost of the afternoon for parents will only be NIS 335 a month at most. This is a significant reduction in price, while maintaining the extended framework of activity, with an additional budget for the reinforcement of teachers, extra curriculum classes, enrichment and more.
