THE JERUSALEM MODEL

In the short time since its establishment, the Center has become a laboratory for developing and testing new techniques for architects and planners. It houses the 1:500 three-dimensional model of the expanded central area of Jerusalem, designed to facilitate study and testing of the city's development options and which is used by teams of architects and planners. The model was created at the initiative of Jerusalem City Engineer Amnon Niv and built by engineer Dick Harvey and students of architecture at the Technion Institute of Technology in Haifa, over a period of seven years. The center aims, too, to develop and increase contacts with similar institutions abroad and will attempt to coordinate the information and knowledge emanating from these institutions. The Center Is a member of the Israeli Chapter of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and has begun to work actively in ICOMOS’s international framework.
