Tzemach Tzedek Synagogue
Tzemach Tzedek Synagogue Founded last century, it is quite large with a lovely courtyard, and in daily use with a yeshiva and outreach program.
On Habad Street over the Cardo, next to the open excavation.

Prior to 5615 (1855 CE) the Synagogue of the Habad Hasidim was lodged in a rented house. This site was purchased with the aid of David Sassoon of Bombay in 5618 (1858 CE). A second storey was added which included both another synagogue and a yeshiva in 5639 (1879 CE). The additional institutions were named Knesset Eliyahu after Elias Sassoon of Bombay.
The building has not been destroyed although it stood in the heart of the heaviest fighting in the Jewish Quarter during the War of Independence.

Rabbi Moshe Segal zatzal, a devotee of Habad, entered the building shortly after the capture of the city in the six-day war and slept there the first night to personally guard the building. He lived alone in the Jewish Quarter for almost a year until his wife agreed to join him.
During the British Mandate it was he who blew the shofar at the Western Wall to mark the end of Yom Kippur, in defiance of Mandate regulations and at great personal risk.
He was a universally respected and beloved member of the renewed Jewish Quarter community until his passing. On the side of the Ramban synagogue is an enormous reproduction of a famous ethical letter by the Ramban, which is dedicated in Rabbi Segal`s memory. A son and grandchildren continue to live in the Jewish Quarter.
