Ramat Shlomo is located in north Jerusalem on a ridge between Ramot Alon and Shuafat. Initially, the city planners intended to build a football stadium on this hill but after early work on the site it was decided to relocate the stadium to the south of the city and develop this ridge as a housing area for the ultra-orthodox population. The first residents moved into their homes in the mid-1990's.
The neighborhood is named in memory of Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach, one of the most important halakhic authorities of the twentieth century who lived most of his life in the Sha'arei Hesed area of the city and passed away in 1995. |
