I'm busy today – I'm taking a class with grandpa and grandma     Beit Shmuel
Beit Shmuel invites the youngest generation together with their grandparents once a month to a magical afternoon encounter under Ofra Peli's instruction. Ofra is a pedagogical trainer and group instructor, and the manager of the Center for Programs and Enterprises Development, focusing on Israeli cultural content.
Each meeting will introduce the participants to each other - ''generation to generation'' - in a different manner, by sheer cooperation between the young and their elders. Each meeting has a special topic, an experience and creation of its own, in view of approaching holidays and other festive days. There are six meetings altogether, taking place on Tuesdays once a month, at 17:00-19:00 hrs. The series of meetings is suitable for 5-7 year olds.

Meeting schedule

''Where have you been and what did you do?''
4.10.2011
Getting to know some toys and games from the grandparents' childhood, jointly choosing and constructing games which are fun to play together.

''The family and the lens''
15.11.2011
With the digital world in mind, an invitation to an active leafing through grandpa and grandma's family album and documenting our togetherness.

''Holidays and weekdays''
13.12.2011

''Paradise on our threshold''
17.1.2012
Creating a special terrace to attract birds and butterflies, and constructing a joint planter and other installations to be placed at grandpa and grandma's house; this will later on require watching, caring and nurturing, then harvesting and fruit picking.

''The tastes of old times and wishing for more''
28.2.2012
Recalling memories of foods, tastes, and smells coming back from the days of the grandparents' childhood. We will prepare edible gifts, cookies shaped like noble kings and queens, and sandwiches shaped like playing cards.

The Roman Square at the Nablus (Damascus) Gate
Beneath the Nablus Gate some very impressive remains have been excavated, containing the entire Roman gate and the square located in front of it. The Roman Gate was constructed during the reign of Adrian Caesar (133) and was made up of three apertures; the eastern one has survived almost in its entirety and one can pass through it to the original stone paved square on top of which there once used to stand a 22 meter column, from which the distance to other cities in the Land of Israel was measured. Nowadays the square serves as a museum showing the history of the Nablus Gate through maps, photographs and illustrations.

The Ramparts Walk
Walking along the Old City Walls Promenade provides one a view of Jerusalem from the heights of the Old City walls, where the old city and the new blend together. The walk on the ramparts of Jerusalem starts above the historical entrance to the city, on through the Nablus Gate, at the end of the road leading from the Port of Jaffa, and all the way to the Holy City.
The route of the promenade takes you along most of the ramparts (except for the Temple Mount), and can be divided in two parts: the northern section beginning at the Jaffa Gate, the new gate and Herod's Gate (the Flowers Gate) and up to the Lions Gate; the southern section also begins at the Jaffa Gate, continues through the Zion Gate and almost up to the Dung Gate.

The works of sculptor and artistic printmaker Rudi Lehman     Ticho House Museum
Opened Tuesday, November 22, 2011, 18:00
The exhibition will stay open until mid March.

Rudi Lehman (1907 – 1977) sculptor, artistic printmaker, and sketcher, has made an impact on the Israeli art history. He was also a teacher who educated many pupils. The many sculptures and wood carvings he created, deal mostly with the subject of animals, and stand out through their ability to express by minimalist details the nature and essence of his objects in a purified manner, full of tenderness, humanity and innocence. His unique sculptures have won him a place among the most outstanding sculptors of his time, who has made an impact on generations of artists; his own work, however, was left behind in the margins of the main works of art in Israel. This exhibition focuses on Lehman's wood carvings and wood prints, created in the 1950s.

About Angels     Israel Museum and the Shrine of the Book
Angels figuring of in works of art, in masterpieces of the European Baroque Period, in the Spanish Colonial tradition, in Moslem miniatures, and in Jewish inscriptions
The exhibition examines the image of the angel, that ageless and sexless celestial being which is both familiar and mysterious. The exhibition hosts a compilation of selected paintings - the large majority of which belong to the Israel Museum - which represent the image of the angel not only as a creature moving about in the different worlds, but also as a figure shared by all of humanity, crossing the borders of religion and place.
